Ipswich Removals – Keeping cool when the weather is hot.
Moving house can be a stressful experience at the best of times but moving during a heatwave can be even worse. As the temperature gets hotter, tempers quite often flare and it becomes harder to keep your patience.
Ipswich removals company, Pooleys Removal & Storage have some tips to keep you cool on your moving day:
If you are doing your own packing, don’t leave it to the last minute when you’ll have to rush. Take your time doing it in advance, ideally in the evenings when it is a bit cooler. Even better is to leave it to an expert to take care of. Pooleys offer a full packaging service so please feel free to contact us for a quote.
On your moving day, open doors and windows early to make sure there is plenty of air circulating around the property. Once you reach your destination, do the same thing there.
Sun Screen and Hats
It is likely that you will spend a fair amount of time outside so don’t forget to apply plenty of sun screen and wear a hat to avoid burning or heat stroke. Pay particular attention to children. When you look back on your new home the first memories you want to be are nice ones, not remembering the sunburn you suffered.
Getting dehydrated is a major risk factor in hot weather so make sure you have plenty of water, squash or other cool drinks on hand for you, your family and your removal team. Ideally keep drinks in a cool box. Tea is also known to help to regulate body temperature, just make sure you keep the milk in a cool box so it doesn’t go off!
Weather Essentials Box/Bag
Make sure you have extra sun screen so you can re-apply as necessary along with drinks and snacks. Fruit and vegetables are particularly good choices as they can help to rehydrate you as well.
Leave the heavy lifting to the experts. Ipswich removals company, Pooleys, have specially trained removal teams who will take care of all of the loading and unloading for you.
Ideally, try to arrange for someone to look after your children for you on moving day but if this is not possible bear in mind that they will probably be very excited and also may get very bored. One very good tip is to pack them an activity bag to give to them on the morning of your moving day. Include some new things that they will enjoy. These could be books, colouring books, crayons/pencils, small travel type games etc. If your new home has an enclosed garden, consider packing a paddling pool or some outdoor toys in your car to keep them amused and out of the way while you are unloading. Just make sure they have plenty of sun screen, hats and some shade if possible.
Pets can get very stressed when moving as it is difficult for them to understand what is going on. Make sure they are kept in the shade and have plenty of water and ventilation. A well ventilated pet carrier or cage is ideal so you don’t have to worry about them wandering off. Keep checking on them throughout the day and NEVER leave them in the car.
Make sure you and your team take regular breaks to prevent heat exhaustion.
First Night Box
Once you are in your new home, the first thing you will probably want to do is have a cool shower. Pack a box with any essentials you’ll need for your first night such as a wash bag, towels, clean clothes, fans if it is really hot and some basics for your evening meal. A takeaway is often a good first night meal but if you can’t have chips without ketchup, make sure it is in this box! Also, put some bedding in your car so you don’t have to hunt through everything to make the beds up.
